All aboard the benefits bus

01/09/2008

Manchester city council is offering residents the chance to get free advice about housing, council tax and education benefits.

On Tuesday, an information bus will park at Wythenshawe precinct near Asda from 09:30 to 15:30.

It is back again at the same time and same location on Friday.

The benefits bus is fully equipped with an office room for extra privacy.

Executive member for finance councillor Bernard Priest said that too many people were missing out on help with funds.

Council benefits can help provide children with free school meals and clothing through grants.

Councillor Priest said: "Either they don't know they're entitled to them or they're put off by the prospect of red tape and form filling."

Advisors on the benefits bus are fully trained to show everyone how they make the most out of the benefits they are entitled to.

This is especially important during the credit crunch, following the city council's drive to crack down on loan sharks earlier this year.
