Bury Metrolink services resume after flooding
28/01/2008
Metrolink services to Bury have resumed after flooding affected parts of north Manchester last week.
Trams between Whitefield and Bury had been unable to operate because of localised flooding but services are mostly back to normal.
However, travellers may find that there is a temporary speed restriction on a short section of the line between Radcliffe and Bury.
Manchester transport chiefs worked closely with the fire and rescue service, Bury Council and the Metrolink operator Stagecoach to resolve the disruption.
"As a result of pumping water out, the flood levels have reduced...and I am pleased that we've been able to reinstate the service to Bury," said Michael Renshaw, services director at the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive.
"We'll continue to monitor the situation and are advising passengers that they may still need to allow extra time for their journeys."
Last week, a burst reservoir on a stretch of road between Bury and Radcliffe caused homes to be flooded. Other areas of Greater Manchester were affected by flooding, with one woman having to be rescued from her car in Salford.
