Council fines company for dumping
05/09/2008
A company has been fined £610 for tipping rubbish, including broken glass, on a north Manchester pavement.
H&C Services was found guilty of unauthorised dumping at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The firm was fined £260 and ordered to pay £350 costs a total of £610.
H&C were tracked down after a city council officer reported the pile, which included a wooden door, packaging, bags of rubbish and glass from broken window frames, at the corner of Stonehead Street and Ashley Lane in Harpurhey.
Manchester council member for neighbourhood services Paul Andrews warned companies dumping would not be tolerated.
"The city council continues to clamp down on businesses who think they can get away with this sort of behaviour," he said.
Companies that tried to dump rubbish would be investigated and prosecuted.
Keeping Manchester tidy has been important after the city council received a barrage of complaints from residents about the mess left by Rangers fans who watched the Uefa Cup Final on screens in the centre in May.
