Gay careers fair held tomorrow at town hall

30/08/2006

A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) careers fair is to be held in Manchester tomorrow.

Representatives from the private, public and voluntary sectors will be at the city's town hall to offer job information and advice.

There will also be advice pertaining to training and education opportunities, as well as workshops on interview techniques and application forms.

Councillor Paul Fairweather commented: "It is appropriate that this event will take place just after Manchester Pride.

"The council is constantly working to break down the barriers facing LGBT employees in the workplace and to make improvements."

Councillor Mary Murphy said: "We are very proud of our record as an excellent employer of lesbians and gay men and we would encourage other organisations to follow Manchester's example."

More than 70 organisations paraded through the city centre on Saturday as part of the Manchester Pride celebrations.

The award for pinkest float at the parade went to HIV charity George House Trust.
