Manchester at heart of 'global media revolution'

Greater Manchester is set to be at the heart of a nationwide and "globally significant" creative revolution with the construction of Media City at Salford Quays.

This is the view of Felicity Goodey, chief executive of the ambitious scheme that will house several BBC departments, including Five Live and Sport, and hundreds of other media businesses.

Ms Goodey said she welcomed the government's decision to raise the TV license fee, which will help pay for the BBC's partial relocation to Salford.

"This national project will benefit not only the BBC and the media as a whole; it will change the lives of people in Salford, Manchester and the north of England.

"This development will transform the media landscape and propel the British industry to the forefront of a growing global market."

The Media City, which will be built on 200 acres of former dockland at Salford Quays, will provide employment for 15,500 people and add £200 million every year in additional net value to the Greater Manchester economy.
