Manchester employees urged to hug trees
08/09/2008
Companies have been urged to get employees to bond over trees.
Manchester city council is running a Tree-Athlon in Heaton Park on October 5th and would like local businesses to take part.
Entrants are asked to take part in a five km run, share their opinion about tree-planting in the city, then plant a sapling, in this three-pronged event.
Organisers ask participants to plant a tree in the part, home or office garden.
Council member for the environment Richard Cowell called on companies to do something different.
"This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to help their employees bond with each other, get fit and more importantly have fun while helping raise funds for tree planting in Manchester," he said.
Everyone who takes part will get a running vest and t-shirt.
Companies with minimum of ten runners will have a tree planted in its name, which will be accompanied by a certificate letting them know where it has been planted.
To register a company team fill in a form at www.tree-athlon.org.
