Manchester life study commissioned

A "groundbreaking" study about life in Manchester has been commissioned by a local thinktank, it has emerged.

When completed, the report by the Manchester Partnership will run to 70 pages, providing enough material for city chiefs to prioritise improvements in areas ranging from health to finance.

The State of the City report has already yielded facts like Manchester is the fastest-growing city in the country and that major events such as Manchester Pride delivers £2.73 for every £1 invested by the council.

City Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: "We are working closely with our partners to make improvements for everyone who lives, works, studies and enjoys themselves in Manchester.

"To do that, we need to understand the city as it really is, both good and not so good. We know that Manchester is a great city and we want more people share in its successes."

According to the Manchester Partnership, Manchester is the second-most visited city in England and is the most popular city among students seeking higher education.

However, the organisation warned that not enough people in the city are working and that the life expectancy of Mancunians is lower than in other cities.
