Memorial held for Jessie James
14/05/2007
A special memorial service took place yesterday for murdered Manchester schoolboy Jessie James.
Tributes were laid on the spot where Jessie died to mark what would have been his 16th birthday tomorrow.
Last September, Jessie was fatally shot three times in Broadfield Park, Moss Side, but despite national media attention and a £20,000 reward, his killer has not been caught.
His mother, Barbara Reid, told the BBC: "He should have been out there laughing, playing with his friends, doing everything a 16-year-old child should do. Yet all that has been taken away.
"People know who did it but won't say. They enjoy the blood on their hands."
According to a Home Office study into 150 shooting incidents in south Manchester that took place over a three-year period, only one witness came forward to testify.
