Men arrested at airport under terror laws
15/08/2008
Two men were arrested at Manchester Airport under terrorism laws late Thursday afternoon, Lancashire police have said.
Both men arrested at the airport were from the Blackburn area. A third man was arrested in Accrington later in the evening.
A spokesman for Lancashire police said all three men, who are aged 21, 22 and 23, are of Asian origin. Their homes are being searched for evidence.
The arrests followed a joint operation by Lancashire Police and Greater Manchester Police Counter Terrorism Unit.
Bill Crawshaw, terminal duty manager at Manchester Airport, said there had been no disruption to the airport's operations.
"This has had no effect on the airport. It is a total police operation and we didn't even know that it had happened until afterwards," he stated.
Chief Supt Andy Rhodes, of Lancashire Police, has confirmed the arrests were made under the Terrorism Act.
