New Order 'surprised' by split rumours
12/01/2007
Manchester band New Order have expressed surprise over rumours that they have split up.
Drummer Stephen Norris told fansite Worldinmotion.net the news is "the first I've heard of it . . . We've got an album to finish and a movie coming out".
This is despite the fact that he was quoted in Pagin/12 magazine last year as stating that the band "should stop for a while".
New Order are currently producing the Joy Division film Control, centring on charismatic Old Trafford-born frontman Ian Curtis, who committed suicide at the age of 24.
Renowned music video director Anton Corbijn is helming the project, with bands such as The Killers contributing to the soundtrack.
However, Peter Hook, New Order'' bass player who was in Joy Division alongside Morris, states that Corbijn has too much control over the film.
Hook told Pagin/12 that Corbijn's style "bothers him a lot".
A Versus Cancer charity gig scheduled for later in the year in Manchester will see Peter Hook perform alongside fellow Mancunian artists, Badly Drawn Boy and Elbow.
