New college for Manchester
21/10/2008
An increase in the number of people wanting to study law has led to a £5.5 million investment for Manchester.
The College of Law will open a centre in September and local firms have already committed to offering and receiving training.
Investment comes in addition to a £2 million injection from the College, which has been earmarked to develop its services in Chester.
College chief executive Nigel Savage said in a statement earlier this year the money would help the company better clients' needs.
"The north-west is the UK's California - it is worth £106 billion, a tenth of the UK economy and larger than several European countries," he commented on the cash boost.
Manchester firm Pannone LLP will offer tailored training at the new site.
The college already receives staff from companies like locally-based Halliwells and Cobbetts.
In 2006, the College of Law was the first independent institution to be granted the authority to award degrees.
