Parents urged to park safe
30/09/2008
Mums and dads have been urged not to park illegally near schools when dropping children off - to avoid accidents
Bad weather and darker mornings reduce visibility for drivers and can lead to more problems on the roads, according to Manchester city council.
The council warned drivers that officers would be taking enforcement action to prevent danger to children.
Executive member for the environment councillor Richard Cowell said: "I am sure that any parent who knows how busy the streets outside schools are as children arrive or leave, will be able to appreciate that this is a potential recipe for disaster."
Motorists found parking illegally would be fined, he added.
A recent car crash in Salford ended with confusion when investigating officers found the legs of a blow-up doll poking up from the boot.
A photograph of the crash featured in several of the national newspapers over the weekend.
