Police appeal for Manchester shooting witnesses
29/05/2007
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 26-year-old man was shot in the stomach during the early hours of yesterday morning in Oldham.
Raja Imran Iqbal was shot with a handgun during a disturbance between two groups of men shortly after midnight in Lees Road, Clarksfield. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Oldham police believe the offenders to be three men who were wearing balaclavas and dark clothes. They were seen running off along Lees Road towards Somerset Street and Beckett Meadows following the incident.
Detective Inspector Chris Bridge has asked anyone who saw the men yet to come forward to do so as soon as possible.
"It's extremely disturbing that such an incident involving a firearm has happened in the area and I can understand that this would cause concerns within the local community," he said.
"This is an isolated incident and we do believe this was a targeted attack, however we have increased patrols in the area to reassure the community. We will not tolerate gun crime and I'd like to reassure local residents that we are doing all we can to find the men responsible for this incident."
