Police shot at in Salford
26/09/2008
Police were shot at with what was believed to have been a shotgun in pursuit of a stolen Skoda last night.
Noone was injured in the attack whereby police were tracking a Skoda Octavia believed to have been stolen from an address in Worsley.
Officers had followed the car onto Eccles New Road shortly before 20:30 BST when one of the passengers shot at them.
The car was then followed by a force helicopter to an address in Trafford Road where the four occupants fled.
One of them ran off to a house in Ordsall where he forced his way into an address on Lascar Avenue.
The firearms unit sealed off the area and detained the man.
A 26-year-old man from Ordsall has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Superintendent Ian Palmer from Salford CID said: "This demonstrates the risks police officers can face whilst going about their daily duties."
Police are keen to speak to anyone with further information about the people in the stolen car.
Please call Salford CID on 0161 8565470 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
