Radcliffe director launches European premiere
05/09/2008
The Radcliffe-born film director that was behind Trainspotting is closing the London Film Festival with his latest offering Slumdog Millionaire.
Danny Boyle was born to Irish Catholic parents and grew up in Radcliffe, attending Tornleigh Salesian College in Bolton.
His career took off with the television adaptation of Mr Wroe's Virgins for the BBC in the 1980s and he went on to produce one of the most iconic films of the 90s Trainspotting.
As well as Trainspotting, Ewan McGregor starred in British-funded A Life Less Ordinary, after Boyle turned down an opportunity to work behind the scenes of one of the Alien movies.
Slumdog Millionaire is about an 18-year-old orphan from downtown Mumbai who finds himself on the cusp of winning a fortune in the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
The film was expected to appeal to people from cities, like Manchester, who might enjoy watching another sprawling "megatropolis" like Mumbai, the director said.
The London Film Festival runs from October 15th to 30th and he will be giving a career talk as part of the seminars in the series.
