Real snow ski centre opens in Manchester
16/11/2007
A new indoor skiing centre in Manchester known as the Chill Factore opens its doors to the public today.
Situated by junction 10 of the M60, near the Trafford Centre, Chill Factore is Europe's longest and widest real snow indoor slope.
The snow level on the 180-metre slope is maintained at 40 cm thanks to machinery that blasts compressed air and water into the atmosphere each night.
Not long before Chill Factore opened, the England Alpine Ski Team selected the new facility to be its national training headquarters.
Tim Fawke, the head coach, said: "We are really looking forward to being able to use the new facility.
"It will be an enormous help in assisting us to develop athletes for the future. I would like to thank Chill Factore for their support."
For novice skiers and children, a 40 x 40 metre nursery slope is available. Shop, restaurants and cafes cans also be found on Chill Factore's Alpine-style street.
