Salford comes out on top in tourism survey
06/08/2008
A new survey has highlighted the popularity of Salford among domestic and overseas tourists.
Salford Museum and Art Gallery and Ordsall Hall are two of the three most popular attractions for international visitors.
This is according to a new survey commissioned by the Northwest Development Agency and Visit Manchester.
The Greater Manchester Visitors survey also found that a higher proportion of new visitors go to Salford, Wigan and Trafford than the city of Manchester.
However, Manchester has the highest proportion of repeat visits.
Councillor Barry Warner, Salford council's lead member for culture and sport, said: "We've been working hard to make our hidden gems such as the museum and art gallery and Ordsall Hall must-see destinations and it appears to be paying off."
Ordsall Hall is widely believed to be haunted. There is even a website that monitors the supernatural goings-on in the building, which is not far from Salford Quays.
