Ambulance services were called to Liverpool Road on Tuesday night following reports a child had been found injured.
The girl was taken to Hope hospital suffering from serious head injuries and later transferred to Pendlebury children's hospital in Swinton where she was pronounced dead yesterday.
She was identified as Demi Lee Mahon and police claim that she is thought to have been taken to a park on Nelson Street in Eccles.
