Solskjaer signs two-year deal with Red Devils
31/03/2006
Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
The deal will tie him to Old Trafford until the summer of 2008, in a move that looked unlikely as the forward struggle with injury in the last few years.
However, despite picking up a cheek injury that has keep him out for several weeks after only just returning from a lengthy lay-off over the course of three seasons, the so-called 'baby-faced assassin' will extend his ten-year stay with United.
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the Norwegian international's attitude, adding that the deal would give him the opportunity to develop his coaching experience and more.
"We also foresee him having a key role as an ambassador for the Club in the future," the Red Devils' boss revealed.
Solskjaer said he was determined to "repay the loyalty that has been shown to me by the club, the fans and Sir Alex".
He added he was hoping to overcome the frustration of the last few years and was looking forward to exploring the new coaching opportunities at Old Trafford.
The forward boasts an impressive record in his time at United, scoring 116 goals, including a famous four-goal haul in just 12 minutes as a substitute against Nottingham Forest in 1999.
