City-ticklers ready for Manchester festival
12/10/2005
Some of the biggest names in comedy will be performing in Manchester this month, as the Manchester Comedy Festival returns for a fifth year.
The 12-day festival will see sour-faced comedian Jimmy Carr (October 29th), BBC Fame Academy presenter Patrick Kielty (October 25th) and US stand-up queen Joan Rivers (Oct 27th) performing, along with an array of other comedians from around the world.
Now financially backed by the internet bank Smile.co.uk, the comedy-fest will also host the yearly City Life Comedian of the Year Final, with the hottest comic prodigies displaying their wit on stage, alongside amateur hopefuls more likely to be laughed at for their lack of it.
In a city famous for bringing out the best in British comedic talent, with the likes of Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas and Jason Mansford all getting early breaks here, the Manchester Comedy Festival hopes to be as hilarious as ever, with the laughter spread out over 25 of the city's venues.
"The festival is one of the major fixtures in the UK comedy calendar and continues to go from strength to strength each year," said festival director Don Ward.
